High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) is a blood test that measures levels of inflammation in the body. CRP is produced by the liver in response to inflammation. The "high-sensitivity" aspect of this test means it can detect very low levels of CRP, which are often associated with systemic inflammation, including processes linked to cardiovascular risk. Unlike standard CRP tests, which typically measure higher levels associated with acute infections or significant injuries, hs-CRP provides an assessment of chronic, low-grade inflammation.
