Fasting insulin

Glucose-managing hormone — central to insulin resistance.

Fasting insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that helps regulate blood glucose levels. After consuming carbohydrates, the pancreas releases insulin, which signals cells to absorb glucose for energy or storage. Measuring fasting insulin levels helps assess insulin production when food has not been consumed for a period, typically 8-12 hours. This provides insight into the body's baseline insulin activity.
