Apolipoprotein B (ApoB) is a primary protein component of atherogenic lipoproteins, such as low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) particles. Each of these particles contains one molecule of ApoB. Therefore, the ApoB level directly reflects the total number of these potentially harmful lipid particles circulating in the bloodstream. It serves as a more direct and sometimes more accurate indicator of cardiovascular risk than LDL cholesterol alone, especially in certain individuals.
