Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG) is a protein produced primarily by the liver. Its main function is to bind to sex hormones, specifically testosterone and estradiol, and to a lesser extent, dihydrotestosterone. SHBG transports these hormones in the blood, making them unavailable for tissue uptake until they are released.
