Total PSA

Total PSA, or Prostate-Specific Antigen, is a glycoprotein produced primarily by the cells of the prostate gland. It is found in seminal fluid and, in smaller amounts, in the blood. While PSA's main function is to liquefy semen after ejaculation, its presence in the bloodstream is utilized as a biomarker. Levels of total PSA in the blood can indicate the health status of the prostate. It is a fundamental measurement used in assessing prostate conditions, often in conjunction with other clinical evaluations such as a digital rectal exam.
