Chlamydia is a common sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis. This PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) test detects the genetic material of the bacteria in a urine sample. PCR is a highly sensitive and specific method, capable of identifying even very small amounts of the bacterial DNA. Early detection and treatment are important to prevent potential complications, including pelvic inflammatory disease in women and epididymitis in men.
